Jamesport is located at the intersection of Highway 6 and Highway 190 in the northeast corner of Daviess County. The town is known for its many shops and tourist attractions, along with the Amish influence in the area.

Many visitors descend upon the town for its various festivals, which include the May Days Festival, the Farmers Market and Heritage Days.
Jesse Harris was the first settler in the area in 1830. The restored log cabin he built to house his family in 1836 now stands in the Jamesport City Park, on the south side of the community.

The Jamesport area is located on rolling hills between the East Fork and West Fork of the Grand River. Much of the area was wooded when Jamesport was founded.

The town was first known as Auberry Grove, named after Thomas M. Auberry, and later was changed to Grant. Dr. James Allen and James Gillian laid out the town in 1857. The first train steamed into town on June 25, 1871. The town was incorporated as a city in 1872 and its name changed to Jamesport.

In the early 1950's the Amish immigrated to Jamesport and have grown into the largest settlement in the state. Currently around 175
families live on the rich farmland of the area.

Today, Jamesport is a community of a little over 500 people, and has re-invented itself as a popular tourist destination in northwest
Missouri.
